Bhubaneswar: Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Education, has requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's personal assistance to expedite the implementation of the PM SVAMITVA in Odisha.

Pradhan said in a letter to the Chief Minister that PM SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Regions) aims to give people of rural inhabited areas property rights.

“As you are aware the survey of rural land and its record of rights in India are age-old. There also remain many inhabited villages in India including the state of Odisha, where survey of land has not been done yet. As a result, many owners of property in rural areas of the state do not have requisite legal documentation for their property,” said the Minister.

“Even after decades of Independence, true potential of villages, homes and landed property in rural areas has remained shackled and often led to uncertainty and mistrust between neighbours in absence of a proper documentation,” Pradhan added.

SVAMITVA is a Central Sector Scheme established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24, 2020 to build a socioeconomically empowered and self-reliant rural India.

During the years 2021-2025, the scheme will cover approximately 6.62 million villages across the country.

The Scheme's pilot phase took place in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and a few villages in Punjab and Rajasthan between 2020 and 2021.
