Bhubaneswar: Since the NIRF rankings were announced and the CAG report was submitted, Utkal University has been in a lot of trouble. Odisha's top university received only 13.78 out of 100 in research and professional practise, which is why it is rated 87th overall.

In addition to NIRF's top-100 list, four other state institutions, including two private universities, have been included. From 2014 through 2019, the university only filed one patent, according to the CAG study.

It was submitted in 2017-18, but wasn't approved until the audit. According to the CAG audit, Utkal University received Rs 71.74 lakh in revenues for four consultancy projects from 2014 to 2019.

The university, according to the state's disgruntled educationists, urgently requires incentive to boost its research ecology.

“To boost the research ecosystem, all stakeholders should work together. We've already begun working in this direction. Asoka Kumar Das, vice-chairman of the Odisha State Higher Education Council and former vice-chancellor of the institution, was quoted in the media as saying, "Hopefully, the aim would be reached."

Siba Prasad Adhikary, the former Vice Chancellor of FM University, emphasised the importance of the teaching faculty. “At Utkal University, 126 of the 257 sanctioned positions are empty. How can you think about research if you don't have half of your academic positions?” the former V-C wondered.
