Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has prepared for a possible cyclone over the Bay of Bengal, despite the fact that no warning has been issued for Odisha. Its officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared to deal with any situation that may arise.

Sulochana Das, Mayor of the BMC, met with corporators and civic officials. According to sources, officials from the fire, forest, and electricity departments and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) attended the Thursday meeting.

Speaking about the preparatory meeting, the Mayor stated that all aspects, including establishing a control room and relocating people to safe shelters, were discussed.

Although there is no cyclone warning, officials have been instructed to remain prepared, she said.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A low-pressure area is expected to form over the same area under its influence around May 7.

On May 8, it is expected to consolidate into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. It may intensify further into a cyclonic storm as it moves nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD.
