Puri: On the occasion of Chaitra Purnima on Thursday, preparations for Lord Jagannath's famous Chandan Yatra began in the pilgrim town of Odisha for the annual festival.

Five boats are being prepared for the Chandan Yatra, which is set to begin on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on April 23 in the seaside pilgrim town. On Akshaya Tritiya, construction of chariots for the annual Rath Yatra will also begin.

Bhoi Sevayats recovered five boats from the holy Narendra Pond: Nanda, Bhadra (4), and Baijajantri (1).

According to the scriptures, after the Lord's Chandan Yatra is completed each year, all five boats are broken and immersed in the Narendra Podnd by the boat attendants. Every year on Chaitra Purnima, these boats are recovered, according to Bhoi Sardar Rabi Bhoi.

These boats will be repaired and ready for the 21-day Chandan Yatra, which will begin on Akshay Tritiya.

"As a result, the Bhoi Sevayats lifted all five boats from Narendra Pond and began preparing for the annual ritual," he explained.
