Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government appointed Deepak Kumar Mishra as the new director of the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer in Cuttack.

According to a notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, he is currently a Senior Consultant in Laboratory Haematology & Molecular Pathology at the Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata.

Mishra has been appointed to the post for a three-year term beginning on the date he takes office and ending when he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.

He graduated first in his MBBS class from VSS Medical College in Sambalpur in 1983 and earned an MD in Pathology from AFMC in Pune in 1990. AIIMS, New Delhi, awarded him a post-doctoral Fellowship in Haematology. He joined Tata Medical Centre in May 2010 after more than 25 years of service in the Armed Forces - Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi and Armed Forces Medical College in Pune.

He is currently the President of India's Molecular Pathology Association (MPAI). He was the former President of the Indian Society of Haematology & Blood Transfusion, the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists, and the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists' Secretary.
