Bhubaneswar: Commuters in Odisha continued to face difficulties on the second day of a 'quit-steering' strike by drivers on Thursday, as Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take action to resolve the issue.

In a series of tweets, he urged the CM to take the protesting drivers' demands seriously and to hold talks with all of the drivers' unions to find a solution. "The drivers' strike began nearly a year ago. "I learned from the media that it had been suspended as a result of discussions between the drivers' union and the government," he said.

He went on to say that the drivers are just like us and are not above the law. Taking their demands lightly "does not bode well for democracy," he added.

Citizens were severely inconvenienced as buses and cabs remained off the roads across the state on Wednesday, demanding social security, including pension after 60 years of age, death and accident benefits, parking, rest shed and toilet facilities along the roads, and the formation of a welfare fund. including pension after 60 years of age and other social security measures.

They went on strike after their meeting with Commerce and Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu on Tuesday proved fruitless. The minister, on the other hand, stated that a high-level committee was reviewing their demands and that action would be taken in accordance with its recommendations.

The bus owners' association, which had previously stated that buses would run as usual, blamed police for the disruption in service. "Our bus drivers are being humiliated in front of the police. "How will we operate if the police are not protecting us?" asked association secretary Debendra Sahu.

Transportation of necessities was also hampered. The truck owners' and auto rickshaw owners' associations, which had announced their refusal to join the agitating drivers, also claimed that they did not receive protection from the local administration in order to operate vehicles.
