Bhubaneswar: Prashanta Rout, the former Nabarangpur Additional Sub-Collector who was recently arrested in a disproportionate assets case, was ordered to retire by the Odisha government on Tuesday.

On June 23, over Rs 3 crore in unaccounted cash was seized from his residences in Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur during simultaneous searches by Vigilance sleuths. He was arrested the next day for allegedly amassing over Rs 5 crore in assets, representing 506% of his known sources of income.

A multi-story building, five plots, over Rs 62 lakh in bank and insurance deposits (Rs 21 lakh in Benami account), and two four-wheelers were also discovered. The OAS officer spent Rs 87 lakh on his children's education. He also made consistent cash deposits into several Benami bank accounts.

Notably, four cases of misconduct have been filed against Rout, and a departmental investigation is underway.

So far, 188 corrupt officers have been either prematurely retired or dismissed from service, or their pension has been permanently suspended.
