Swapna Rani Pandit of Kanisi has been identified as the deceased. Goodly Mishra, a Sheragad resident, is being sought by rescuers.
Around 7 a.m., five girls were swept away by a strong current in the sea, according to sources. Three girls were rescued by the villagers. Swapna was later rescued by marine police and an ODRAF team, but she was declared dead at Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital. Goodly, who was waiting for her Plus II Arts results, is being sought.
According to the sources, one of the girls was visiting her uncle's place to witness Jatra and went out with her friends to take a bath in the sea when the mishap occurred.
