Sambalpur: Excise officials seized approximately 19 grams of brown sugar and 125 bottles of illegal cough syrup in the Sunapali area of Odisha on Friday and arrested a person in connection.
Md Naseem, a resident of Sunapali in the district's Dhanupali police limits, has been identified as the accused.
Following a tip, a joint team of Excise and Police officials raided the Sunapali area and seized approximately 19 grams of brown sugar and 125 bottles of corex (chlorpheniramine maleate syrup maxcoff syrup) illegally possessed by the accused.
According to an Excise official, the estimated cost of seized brown sugar is around Rs 2.5 lakh.
In this regard, a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and various sections of the IPC. He added that the accused would be charged and that an investigation would be conducted.
