Bhubaneswar: Odisha is expected to receive heavy rain for four days beginning Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy rain may fall in one or two places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj until 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the midday bulletin. Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, and Cuttack districts have all received yellow thunderstorm warnings with lightning. There is also a chance of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many parts of Odisha's interior and in a few coastal districts.

The IMD had previously predicted fairly widespread to widespread rain/thundershower with isolated heavy falls in some districts between August 25 and 31 in its extended rage forecast. Overall rainfall activity is expected to be slightly above normal, according to the forecast.

This monsoon season, Odisha received 743.8 mm of rain, compared to the normal of 822.9 mm, through August 22. While one district, Boudh, received excessive rain, 11 are deficient, and the remaining 18 are normal.
