Low Pressure Area forms over BoB; heavy rain likely in Odisha
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday that a Low Pressure Area had formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal.
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday that a Low Pressure Area had formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal.
"Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height," according to the weather service.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely over the North Bay of Bengal adjoining the West Central Bay of Bengal, along and off the Odisha coast from June 25 to June 27 morning.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea area along and off the Odisha coast, the North Bay of Bengal adjoining the West Central Bay of Bengal during this period, according to the statement.
Several districts in Odisha are also expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during the day. For ten districts, an orange warning has been issued.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in a few places in Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Balangir, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Jharsuguda, with extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places in Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Boudh.
Heavy rain is also expected in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, and Nuapada districts.
The orange warning remains in effect for Monday, with heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) falling in a few places in Bargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Boudh, and Nabarangpur, as well as extremely heavy rain (>20cm) falling in one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, and Bargarh.
During this time, heavy rain (7 to 11cm) may fall in Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput.
