Puri: On Sunday, following the completion of Hera Panchami, the Dakhina Moda ritual, which marks the start of preparations for the Bahuda Yatra of the sibling deities to the Shree Jagannath Temple, will be held in Odisha's Puri town.

During the ritual, the chariots that have been parked on Saradhabali in front of Gundicha Temple, facing north since Rath Yatra, are turned south to Jagannath Temple. The chariots are then kept near Nakachana Dwara, the shrine's eastern gate. Darpadalan, the Goddess Subhadra's chariot, is first turned south. Lord Balabhadra's Taladhwaja and Jagannath's Nandighosha follow.

When the servitors bring ajnamallyas and serve it to the Biswakarmas, it is done after Sakala Dhupa is offered to the deities.

Meanwhile, Mangala Alati of the Lords was postponed this morning because Goddess Mahalaxmi returned to Shree Jagannath Temple around 5.40 a.m. after receiving the ajnamallyas (the consent garland).

According to tradition, the servitors arrived at Gundicha temple around 3.20 a.m., carrying the representative Goddess Mahalakshmi (known as Subarna Mahalaxmi) in a decorated palanquin. His consort Goddess Mahalaxmi is irritated with Him for not accompanying Her on the annual pilgrimage.

She was then led to the Jaya Bijaya gate, where the Goddess hurled'Moha Churna' (herb powder given to Her by Goddess Bimala) at Her husband. Following this, the Pati Mahapatra offered Lord Jagannath's ajnamallyas to the Goddess, assuring Her that He would return to Srimandir in three days. As she is unable to meet Lord Jagannath, the Goddess breaks a piece of Nandighosa before returning to the Shree Jagannath temple via Hera Gohiri Sahi in secret. The ritual was carried out on the deity's behalf by priests and servants of the Goddess.

The Lords will return to Srimandir on June 28 and will be taken to the sanctum sanctorum on July 1 with the Niladri Bije ritual.
