Bhubaneswar: A woman preparing for the civil services examination in Bhubaneswar donated all of her hair to cancer patients in a commendable gesture that could inspire many others.
Smrutisudha Sahu decided to get tonsured and donate her hair for wigs worn by cancer patients after realizing that her long hair could be a valuable resource for a good cause.
She stated that her parents inspired her to do something good for others, and that her father specifically encouraged her to help cancer patients by donating her hair.
Thousands of people in Odisha are cancer patients. Patients with this painful disease must go through a difficult treatment regimen that includes chemotherapy, which causes severe hair loss, she explained.
While hair loss has a significant psychological impact on patients, women are particularly affected by this treatment. She claims that it affects their self-esteem when they lose all of their hair as a result of the treatment's side effects.
Smruti stated that after deciding to donate her hair to cancer survivors and fighters, she contacted doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and learned about a trust through which she could do so.
She stated that she donated her hair to the trust on June 10 and that many of her friends and relatives were inspired by her actions and expressed a desire to donate their hair to cancer patients.
Smruti, who is from Koraput, is studying for the civil services examination in Bhubaneswar.
Her family members have also expressed their joy and praised her noble act, saying she has set a good example for others in society.
