Keonjhar: A major fire broke out at the daily market in Odisha's Keonjhar town on Monday morning, destroying over 50 shops.
Firefighters were quickly dispatched to extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have started in a utensil shop due to an electric short-circuit.
According to sources, the flames could be put out after a three-hour effort. Sub-Collector Ramachandra Kisku, who visited the accident site, stated that the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, and that the matter will be investigated.
A trader told the media that by the time he arrived at the market, fire had destroyed articles worth lakhs of rupees in his shop. He also claimed that the amount of water required to extinguish the flames is insufficient.
Harischandra Das, secretary of the Keonjhar Market Committee, has asked the district collector to assist the victims. "Valuables worth Rs 50-60 crore were destroyed in the fire." The victims' only source of income has been taken away."
