Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to rename Gondwana Chhak in Jharsuguda in honor of great revolutionary Veer Karunakar Singh Naik.

Dharmendra stated in a letter to the Chief Minister that tribal and indigenous communities have always held a special place in Odisha's history as well as social and cultural fabric.

The Education and Skill Development Minister stated that the evolution of Odia civilisation is unthinkable without the inclusion of tribal and indigenous communities, and that the people of Odisha always feel proud when remembering the origin of Lord Jagannath. As a result, those in power in the state have always treated tribal people as their own, he claims.

The senior BJP leader praised Karunakar Singh Naik as a martyr and valiant leader of the Gond community, saying the Gond community has played a dominant role in Odisha and central India for centuries.

He stated that Indians are proud of the bravery and courage displayed by valiant leaders such as Durgavati, Birsa Munda, Madho Singh, and Veer Surendra Sai.

If Gondwana Chhak is renamed after brave revolutionary Karunakar Singh Naik, it will be a fitting tribute to him, Dharmendra said, adding that the people of Jharsuguda and the Gond community will also be honored if it is declared.

Noting that the Gond community's dedication to the country's freedom struggle is always remembered, he stated that at a time when we are celebrating Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, we are committed to bringing to the forefront the bravery and dedication of tribal heroes. "We are fully committed to including such things in the all-India syllabus," Dharmendra wrote to the CM.

Earlier, on February 11, Dharmendra promised the 'Akhila Bharatiya Gondwana Gond Mahasabha' that a proposal to rename the Gondwana Chhak as "Veer Karunakar Singh Naik Chhak" would be sent to the state government.
