Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police, which is looking for playback singer Sourin Bhatt in a sexual harassment case, wrote to bank officials on Tuesday to freeze his two accounts, a day after issuing a lookout circular.

"It will be finished in 2-3 days." This step was taken to put pressure on him to surrender to the authorities. We are also in contact with our colleagues in Kolkata. "The cops are looking for him," Cuttack Zone-II ACP Amitabh Mohapatra said, adding that the singer has been missing since the Orissa High Court revoked the interim protection granted to him.

The 42-year-old is a well-known playback singer in the Bollywood and Odia film industries.

After the High Court of Orissa denied Sourin's anticipatory bail, the Cuttack Mahila police station organized a special team to arrest him.  Cuttack DCP told the media on Monday that the musician was served with many reminders to appear before the investigating officer, but he continued to evade them and refused to comply. A police crew also failed to locate him after searching three locations in his hometown of Kolkata. "The lookout circular was issued to prevent him from travelling abroad," the DCP stated.

Notably, a case was booked against him on the basis of a complaint lodged at Mahila police station here on June 12 by a woman, a resident of Cuttack city who works in a private bank, accusing him of false promises of marriage, cheating, torture, and exploitation. She further accused the singer of stealing Rs 10 lakh from her.

Fearing arrest, the singer filed an anticipatory bail petition before the HC on June 26. The court originally granted him temporary protection but then denied his request. "This court does not believe the case is appropriate for the grant of pre-arrest bail."

Given the nature of the charges as shown by the materials on record, the circumstances presented, and the seriousness and gravity of the offenses, this court is hesitant to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner. "As a result, the bail application is denied," the order stated.

The HC also ordered him to assist the police investigation whenever possible.
