Puri: Sudarsan Patnaik, a renowned sand artist, has requested the intervention of Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb in order to open the Ratna Bhandar (treasury) of Jagannath temple.

Patnaik wrote to Gajapati that since the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has requested to inspect the inside of the Ratna Bhandar, the Srimandir managing committee should request that the Odisha government open the temple's treasure house.

Patnaik, who is a member of the managing committee, requested that the king, as the committee's head, take the necessary steps.

The depressed artist also questioned why the issue was not brought up for discussion at the managing committee meeting. "There should be no further delay in reopening the room because it is a matter of safety and security of the Bhandar and concerns the religious sentiments of the devotees," he added.

In the letter, he also raised the issue of opening all temple gates. "The closure of three doors has caused dissatisfaction among devotees, particularly locals." During the COVID pandemic, three doors were closed for devotees to prevent disease spread. Now that the situation has stabilized, there should be no reason to close all the gates," he says.
