The Bhubaneswar metro rail project is a significant infrastructure initiative in Odisha, expected to be completed by December 2027. This ambitious development aims to transform urban transportation in Bhubaneswar by addressing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across key areas of the city.
According to sources, the metro trains will operate on tracks elevated 13 meters above ground level. However, the height of the tracks will be greater at locations such as Rajmahal, Jayadev Vihar, and Baranga. The metro trains are planned to run every 10 minutes, with plans to acquire 13 metro trains, each consisting of three coaches.
Currently, soil testing for the metro rail project is underway. Soil samples are being collected from depths of 50 to 60 meters at various locations, which will then be sent to laboratories in Delhi and Cuttack for analysis. This soil testing is expected to be completed within two months.
Once the soil testing is finished, the foundation design work will commence. Meanwhile, work on the casting yard at Ghatikia is ongoing, where construction materials for the project will be produced. Additionally, the project maintenance depot is being developed at Ratagada, near Trisulia.
In conjunction with these efforts, road expansion work from Sishu Bhawan Square to Raghunathpur in Bhubaneswar is also in progress, aimed at improving convenience for commuters. This roadwork is anticipated to be completed within two months.
