Puri: Thousands of devotees flocked to Odisha's pilgrim town of Puri on Monday to witness the sibling deities' Nabajoubana Darshan at Shree Jatannath temple.

After spending a fortnight in quarantine in Anasara Ghara, Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath, and Devi Subhadra reappeared in youthful form to give darshan to devotees at the 12th century shrine.

The Nabajoubana Besha festival commemorates Lord Jagannath's physical rejuvenation. Daitas washes and repaints the Lord's body, except for the eyes.

The eyes of the idols are painted by their respective priests during this ceremony, and puja resumes at the Puri shrine.

Notably, Lord Jagannath and his siblings become ill after bathing during Snana Yatra. They are then taken to Anasara Pindi to recover. When the Anasara rituals are completed, the sibling deities are said to be completely cured. Thousands of devotees flock to the seaside pilgrim town to see their resurrected Gods and seek their blessings.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) scheduled Paramanik Darshan of the deities between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. According to sources, up to 7000 tickets for the Paramanik Darshan were sold, with each ticket costing Rs 100.

Following that, the Sahanamela Darshan for general devotees began at 9 a.m. and will last until 11 a.m. Devotees enter the temple through Singhadwara, the Lion's Gate, and exit through the North Gate for Sahanamela Darshan.

There will be no Holy Trinity darshan after 11 a.m. Devotees are free to roam the inner compound and see other deities on the shrine grounds.

Previously, the deities' Banakalagi ritual was performed. Following that, the servitors were busy preparing for the Nabajouban Besha. Because the 'Ubha Yatra' ritual will not be performed this year, the Nabajouban darshan will be limited to three hours, according to sources.

On Monday, the Chala Apasara ritual began at 6 a.m., followed by Anasara Tati and Patadian Bisarjan at 7.30 a.m.

The temple administration and district administration have made elaborate arrangements for the deities' darshan by the large number of devotees who have arrived in town.

Meanwhile, preparations for the world-famous Rath Yatra on Tuesday are nearing completion. The three massive chariots will be drawn from the rath yard to the Temple's front entrance. The chariots will be drawn only after the three 'badas' have given their angyan malas (divine garlands of consent).
