Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) announced that starting on August 31, train service in Bhubaneswar would return to normal.

Extremely significant project work on the third line between Bhubaneswar and Mancheswar, as well as significant layout improvements at Mancheswar Railway Station and reorganization of the signaling system at Bhubaneswar Railway Station, were undertaken from August 17 to 30. During that time, Bhubaneswar Coach Maintenance Depot's entrance and exit were severely impacted. During the project's construction, a few trains with origins in or destinations through Bhubaneswar were momentarily canceled," it stated.

This ECoR’s announcement came amid reports of passengers having had a harrowing time on Tuesday following cancellation of many trains due to safety-related works at different stations and railway tracks. Many people came to know about the changed status only after arriving at the station here though the ECoR had informed about cancellation of trains till August 30 through public notice. Passengers of long-distance trains faced severe difficulties as the cancellation and diversion of trains forced them to remain stranded at the station for hours.

85 pairs of trains were to be canceled for safety-related development work at the Haridaspur, Bhubaneswar, Mancheswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Sambalpur City railway stations on August 14.
