Rayagada: A section of a culvert under construction collapsed in Uparasaja village, Kalyansinghpur block, Odisha's Rayagada district, killing five people, four of whom were children, on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the children were bathing beneath the culvert. While the identities of the deceased have yet to be determined, they reportedly died from bleeding head injuries caused by the culvert collapse.
Following the deaths of the children, the village was enveloped in gloom. The parents of the deceased were seen wailing over their children's bodies as villagers gathered in large numbers at the fallen culvert despite the area's constant rain.
They were concerned about the under-construction culvert collapsing after only a few rain showers.
While a rescue team comprised of fire and police personnel was seen clearing the debris, it was suspected that more people were trapped inside.
Meanwhile, the authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
