Undertrial Prisoner Dies In Ganjam; Family Alleges Murder

Berhampur: On Saturday, an undertrial prisoner died in mysterious circumstances in Bhanjanagar special sub-jail in Odisha's Ganjam district.
According to sources, the deceased prisoner was arrested by Bellaguntha police on theft charges five days ago. Charan Behera (40), of Tanrada village, was identified as being under the jurisdiction of the Belaguntha police station.
Behera became ill unexpectedly this morning and was rushed to BHanjanagar hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. A police team arrived at the hospital and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the jail inmate.
After receiving information, the deceased's family members arrived at the hospital and claimed that he was beaten to death. They demanded compensation, claiming that the deceased's body bore injury marks.
