Jyotsnarani Das, a retired teacher, and her son Sudhir Panda have been identified as the victims.
The maid noticed them hanging and called police, who arrived and began an investigation. Though the cause of death has not been determined, it is believed that the two committed suicide.
According to sources, the mother-son duo were the only ones at home because Sudhir's wife was reportedly visiting her parents in Hemgiri. During the COVID pandemic, the woman's younger son allegedly committed suicide in the same house.
According to the sources, police will likely question the daughter-in-law.
