Police apprehended two interstate ATM looters after locals apprehended them and handed them over to cops in Ramba, Ganjam district, Odisha.

Berhampur: Police apprehended two interstate ATM looters after locals apprehended them and handed them over to cops in Ramba, Ganjam district, Odisha.

According to sources, the looters were caught with 12 ATM cards and Rs 92,000 in cash.

Harihar Reddy of Sitarampur village and Raghunath Reddy of Laxmipur village, both under the jurisdiction of Chamakhandi police station, have been identified.

The accused used to wait for hours at ATMs for gullible elderly people to come and withdraw money, employing a novel mode of operation. They assist elderly people with low vision.  Following a cash withdrawal, the accused cleverly swap their original ATM cards for similar ones. 

Following that, they withdraw the entire amount of money from their bank accounts using ATM cards.

However, the accused were apprehended by locals as they were leaving an ATM after exchanging cards on Thursday. The two were arrested and turned over to the police.

Several loot cases have been filed against the two accused persons at various police stations in and around Ganjam district, according to police.
