On Wednesday, a kangaroo court was held in Batapalasa village, Karanjia block, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, over the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl.

Baripada: On Wednesday, a kangaroo court was held in Batapalasa village, Karanjia block, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, over the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl.

According to sources, Mamata Mahakud and Afzal Ansari took their neighbor Anam Dehuri's 13-year-old girl child from Batapalasa village to Rath Yatra on Tuesday. When she did not return home, her family went on a frantic search for her. Afzal and Mamata attempted to flee on a motorcycle this morning but were apprehended by villagers, who tied them to a pole near the village water tank and mercilessly thrashed them.

Both were later rescued by police.

According to police sources, the missing girl was found in the Rairangpur area and is being transferred to Karanjia. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are being investigated.
