7 held for looting passengers in Mo Bus
Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested seven members of a gang accused of robbing Mo Bus passengers, according to Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh on Tuesday.
"All of them arrested are from Cuttack. The group would board a busy Mo Bus from Baramunda and cause an artificial traffic block around passengers before robbing them of cash, hang bags, and handbags. They would then exit the vehicle at a stop or bus stop and enter another in order to target new passengers. They traveled in cars and made steps to disguise their identities. They also targeted buses traveling between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, as well as crowded buses sitting at bus stops," he said.
Nikunja Samantaray (55), Sekh Muna (33), SK Sultan (60), Halim Khan alias Rajesh (42), Prafulla Barik (40), Duryadhan Mohapatra alias Bhima (33) and SK Firoj alias Bauli have all been detained (41).
"They are implicated in two loot cases, one each from Nayapalli and Saheed Nagar, and one from Capital Hospital and Khandagiri," the DCP added.
They were found with nine cell phones and Rs 57,000 in cash. He stated that efforts are being made to identify other gangs involved in this crime.
On December 11, Biranchi Narayan Seth, a Nayagarh local working as a driver in the capital city, was stolen of Rs 42,000 rupees inside a CRUT bus traveling from Rasulgarh Chhhak to Baramunda. In this regard, he had filed a complaint with Nayapalli police. However, this was not the only instance. There had been allegations of passengers on the bus being robbed of cash and gold.
According to a press release, the crime was committed by a well-organized gang.
Notably, two people engaged in a loot case on the 'Mo Bus' were caught earlier in September.
