Mamita Meher murder main accused Gobinda Sahu commits suicide
Balangir: Gobinda Sahu, the main culprit in the Mamita Meher murder case, reportedly committed himself on Tuesday at the Kantabanji sub-jail in Odisha's Balangir district.
According to authorities, Sahu was discovered with a gamcha hanging from a tree on the jail grounds and was transported to Kantabanji sub-divisional hospital, where medics proclaimed him dead. Sahu was supposed to appear in front of the JMFC court.
Mamita, a resident of Balangir's Turekela block, was employed as a teacher at the Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling, Kalahandi district. On October 8, 2021, the 24-year-old teacher went missing. Mamita's family members filed a police report, alleging that the school's managing committee head Sahu was involved in her disappearance. Mamita's burnt remains were excavated from the construction site of a stadium near the school on October 19.
Sahu was later apprehended for kidnapping and murdering Mamita with the assistance of his driver, Radheshyam Chandi.
Sahu reportedly saw Mamita at Chandotara on October 8. He then drove her to Bhawanipatna to go shopping. Later, both proceeded to the Manikeswari temple, and on the way back, he strangled her to death in the car's back seat.
Ranjit Sahu, the principal of Mahaling College, and Kruti Chandan, a management committee member, were arrested earlier this month on suspicion of influencing witnesses in the murder case.
