Bhubaneswar: In the midst of a flurry of campaigning for the Padampur bypoll, the BJP filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha on Sunday, alleging that Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari violated the model code of conduct.

A saffron party team led by state general secretary Dr Lekhasri Samantasinghar claimed that the minister met with personnel from Padampur public school and the government-aided Jaydev Institute of Technology and discussed'money distribution' in Padampur.

According to the party, these meetings were organised by Krushna Mohan Panda, a staff member at a college in Bargarh, which is also a breach of the poll code of conduct.

"The minister is pressuring government personnel to work for his party and threatening to move them." While Panda should be detained, the election commission should prohibit the Minister from entering the assembly constituency," she remarked.

The byelection is scheduled for December 5.
