Bhubaneswar: In response to the potential of a fresh COVID outbreak, the Odisha government intends to resume random testing and whole genome sequencing of foreign returnees on December 24. (Saturday).

According to health professionals, early identification of cases and variants would aid in the prevention of further virus transmission.

Following reports of a China returnee testing positive for the BF.7 variety in Gujarat, officials do not want to take any chances because the state will host the World Cup of Hockey in January.

While the variation was initially discovered in Gujarat in July, Odisha discovered it in a single sample examined on September 30. It was not, however, associated to greater severity or infectiousness in the two states.

All international airports will carefully enforce COVID limits.

Notably, the state administration will have a critical meeting on COVID management at the Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday at 12.30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presented a declaration on India's preparation in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. "We are always keeping an eye on the issue. "There are no direct planes between China and India, so people travel by alternative means," he explained.

He stated that the priority is to guarantee that no unknown form of the virus reaches India while removing any travel hindrance.
