Six including two minors held for quack’s murder in Ganjam

Ganjam: Odisha Police arrested six people, including two kids, on Sunday for their alleged participation in the murder of a quack and effort to hide the body.

Anil Sabar (20) of Gundurapali village, his cousins Jogi (23), Rabindra (45), Jitendra (22), and two youngsters aged 11 and 14, have been identified as the accused.

According to sources, the 64-year-old deceased, Jay Mohanty, had multiple damage marks on his body. "Anil was arrested after an injury mark was discovered on his leg and he was unable to explain why," IIC of Khallikore police station Jagannath Malik told the media.

"During questioning, he admitted to killing Jay while under the influence of alcohol." He admitted to being hurt while chopping wood. When Jay contacted him for help with his wounds, he asked Rs 500. Jay refused to treat Anil and fled when he said he would pay the money later. Later, Anil and the two minor boys pursued Jay, who was on a bicycle, and assaulted him with a sword," Malik claimed.

Anil phoned his relatives Jogi, Rabindra, and Jitendra after discovering Jay's death and disposed of the body in the ditch with the help of the two minor boys. Some villagers, however, observed them burying the body and alerted Jay's family and Khallikote police.

Notably, four of them were brought before the court, and the two juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Justice Board. The incriminating weapon was also taken away from them.

It's worth noting that Jay, who worked as a quack, had been absent since Friday. On Saturday, his body was discovered in a ditch near Gundurapali hamlet, under Khallikote police boundaries.
