Software engineer Sweta Death Case: Deceased's boyfriend Soumyajeet arrested

Bhubaneswar: Almost five months after the alleged suicide death of software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari in Odisha's capital, the Twin City Commissionerate Police arrested her boyfriend Soumyajeet Mohapatra from his Sambalpur residence on Thursday.
According to sources, a team of Chandrasekharpur police officers arrested him at his home in Bansidharnagar, Sambalpur, under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. He was being transported to Bhubaneswar.
Notably, Sweta allegedly hanged herself on August 21, 2022, at her apartment in the Sailashree Vihar area of Delhi, due to a strained relationship with her boyfriend. The 25-year-old, a native of Bhadrak, worked as a technology analyst for a reputable IT firm in town and shared an apartment with three female coworkers.
Sweta's brother claimed shortly after her death that she took extreme steps because Soumyajeet threatened to make photos of their intimate moments go viral. He was also accused by Sweta's family of extortion.
A case was then filed against him at the Chandrashekharpur police station.
