Bhubaneswar: At 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, India successfully launched the tactical ballistic missile Prithvi-II from a test site off the coast of Odisha.

"On January 10, a successful training launch of a short-range ballistic missile, Prithvi-II, was carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha," the ministry said in a statement.

The test met all mission requirements, and the nuclear-capable missile equipped with a sophisticated inertial guidance system hit the target with nearly zero CEP. "The Prithvi-II missile is a well-established system that has been vital to India's nuclear deterrence. "The missile hit its target with pinpoint accuracy," it stated.

According to the report, the "user training launch" successfully validated the missile's operational and technical aspects.

The Prithvi-II was already successfully tested throughout the night hours in 2018 and 2019.

The missile, developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, has a range of approximately 350 km and can carry warheads weighing 500-1,000 kg.
