Woman dead, 8 critical as truck hits auto-rickshaw

Bhawanipatna: In the early hours of Wednesday in the Kalahandi district of Odisha, a truck struck an auto-rickshaw carrying a woman who was murdered and eight others who suffered critical injuries as they were leaving a Durga Puja fair.
A speeding truck struck a three-wheeled auto-rickshaw carrying some inhabitants of Gunduri hamlet while they were going home in Dangaragada, which is under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station.
The victims, according to sources, had travelled to Depur village to attend a fair held there in honour of Durga Puja.
Locals took the injured to a nearby hospital and called the police. They claimed that eight auto-rickshaw passengers suffered significant injuries in addition to the woman who passed away.
An immediate police response resulted in the seizure of the automobiles. The truck's driver fled the scene shortly after the collision, and search efforts are ongoing to find him.
