Bhubaneswar: In the Nayagarh area, the Odisha Police Special Task Force (STF) collected brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore and detained a drug peddler.

Acting on intelligence, a team of STF from the Crime Branch raided Narayani Pitha in Kantilo, which is under the jurisdiction of Fategarh police station in the district, on Sunday evening for illegal drug trafficking and possession.

STF agents apprehended the drug peddler, identified as Hara Prasad Prusty of Chamusahi Patna in the district's Khandapada police station area, according to an STF announcement.

During the search, 1190 grams of brown sugar, a motorcycle, and other incriminating evidence were located and seized from his possession. The confiscated brown sugar was worth more than Rs 1 crore.

The accused could not offer any valid authority in favor of his possession of such contraband materials, for which he was detained and would be sent to the District & Sessions Court, Nayagarh.

A case has been filed, and an investigation is underway.

The special campaign against narcotic narcotics is still ongoing. Since 2020, the STF has confiscated more than 68 Kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine, 111 quintals of ganja/marijuna, 750 gram opium, and detained more than 166 drug traffickers and peddlers, according to the STF announcement.
