Nuapada: On Tuesday, an ailing leopard died while being treated in Odisha's Nuapada district. The wild animal reportedly had Babesiosis, an infectious disease.

According to sources, the leopard was being treated in Amakoni forest in the district's Dharambandha area.

On April 16, forest department officials rescued the ailing leopard near Siliaribahara village in the Dharamabandha section of the Nuapada Sadar forest range.

Veterinarians and researchers were keeping a close eye on it. Veterinarians also recommended that the leopard be relocated to a location with better medical facilities.

Before it died, the animal was being treated in the range office. The forest officials were reportedly unwilling to send the leopard for treatment outside of Nuapada.

The leopard was rescued after villagers spotted it withering around in pain this morning and alerted the Forest Department. They had also taken pictures and videos of him after discovering that he appeared ill and was unable to walk.
