According to sources, her father and sister were severely injured in the accident on the Sonepur-Balangir road near Gaintala.
The incident sparked tension in the area, as a large number of locals staged a road blockade demanding harsh punishment for the bus driver and justice for the girl's family. Due to the protest, vehicular traffic on the road came to a halt.
The mishap occurred while a man was riding his motorcycle to Puintala block from Brahmanipali village with his two daughters to update their Aadhaar cards. Their motorcycle was hit from behind by a speeding bus near Gaintala tehsil, and all three fell to the ground. One of the girls got under the bus's wheels and was dragged for about a half-kilometer by the vehicle.
While the girl died on the spot, her father and sister were rushed to Balangir's Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, where their condition was described as critical.
