Koraput: On Tuesday, normal life in Odisha's Koraput was halted due to a dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by Congress, which accused the Centre and the state government of neglecting the district.

Due to the 12-hour bandh declared by the Koraput district Congress, shops, business establishments, offices, and educational institutions remained closed.

The roads appeared deserted as vehicular movement came to a halt. Public transportation vehicles were off the road, causing major issues for commuters.

Congress workers used picketing in several locations, led by senior leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

Police said that tight security arrangements had been made throughout the district to prevent any untoward incidents during the bandh.

The bandh's impact was felt throughout the district, particularly in Sunki, Chandili, Kotpad, Borigumma, Jeypore, Lamtaput, and Pottangi.

According to sources, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on National Highway No. 26 because agitators blocked the highway's main traffic intersection.

The protesters' demands include establishing a Central School in Jeypore, employment opportunities for local youths, the appointment of district youths to various vacant positions in the local administration, and reopening the Koraput B.Ed college.

They also demanded that steps be taken to establish a Central Driving Training Research Center in Jeypore.
