Beware of Fake E-Challan Links: Odisha Issues Urgent Advisory
Scam alert

Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha has sent a warning about a bogus e-challan fraud, informing residents that such warnings would never originate from a mobile number.

State Department of Electronic and Information Technology tweeted on X (formerly Twitter): "Beware of fake links and use only http://echallan.parivahan.gov.in for payment of traffic challans."

According to police sources, scammers have been urging recipients to deposit the e-challan between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 online by sending text messages with a malicious URL that looks like the government's online challan payment gateway.

By clicking on the infected link, one can grant scammers access to their mobile devices, allowing them to immediately deduct money from victims' accounts. The warning stated that "your phone security is compromised, scammers gain access to credit/debit cards, and your bank account is quickly drained."

Vehicle owners are urged to have the traffic police confirm the validity of any messages on e-challans.

The sources stated that no complaints have, however, been made in this regard to date.
