Angul: A wild elephant's skeletal remains were discovered in the Pampas forest range of the Satkosia wildlife sanctuary in Odisha's Angul district.

On Sunday, forest officials discovered the bones in a crater near Chotamunda in the Tarbha section. According to sources, the animal, which was around eight years old, died about four months ago.

However, the precise cause of its death is unknown. Meanwhile, a team of forest officials rushed to the scene on Monday to assess the situation. They've taken samples of the bones and hide.

According to sources, the samples have been sent to OUAT in Bhubaneswar for examination.

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding its death. They are investigating whether the animal died naturally or was killed by poachers. Notably, the death of this elephant was discovered just hours after another elephant was discovered dead in Ganjam district.
