Bhubaneswar: In order to reduce pollution on its campuses, the Fakir Mohan University (FMU) in Balasore, Odisha, has decided to go vehicle-free.
This will take effect on its campuses in Balasore and Nuapadhi under the Remuna block, approximately 13 kilometers from the Balasore campus, on August 15.
According to university sources, vehicles belonging to visitors and staff, the vice-chancellor, and students will be parked in a designated area outside the campus. Instead, four battery-powered vehicles and cycles donated by the alumni association will be deployed on the campuses to transport staff, students, and visitors.
"All necessary steps have been taken to avoid any inconvenience to the staff, students, and visitors," said FMU Vice-Chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathy.
Wheelchairs will also be available at the entry gates for those who require them, according to the VC, who added that he hoped people would choose to walk from the entry gate to their destinations on campus.
