Sambalpur: On Friday, the authorities of the Hirakud Dam in Odisha opened six more sluice gates to discharge floodwaters in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi.
According to sources, more than 3,000 cusec of floodwater is currently being discharged from 20 (Left-13 + Right-7) of the reservoir's 64 sluice gates, with the reservoir's water level standing at 628.12 feet, compared to the ideal level of 630 ft earlier this morning.
The dam authorities have also warned residents in low-lying areas not to enter the river bed.
