Bhubaneswar: The pharmacist, who sparked outrage by posting selfies with President Droupadi Murmu's chopper ; during her recent visit to Odisha, has been suspended.

Jaswant Behera has been identified. He was stationed near the Chheligodhuli helipad near Jashipur, where Murmu's helicopter landed last Friday during her visit to the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district. He took some selfies and posted them on Facebook while he was there. This was regarded as a serious breach in the President's security.

Rupabhanu Mishra, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Mayurbhanj, then suspended Behera.

The selfie controversy arose during a 9-minute power outage at Odisha's Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. The hiccup occurred only a few minutes into the President's speech, but she continued because the venue's mike system was unaffected. It lasted 11:56 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.

While security experts questioned why Murmu was not whisked away to a safer location during the university's power outage, the BJP claimed it was an attempt to sabotage the President's program.
