Sundargarh: On Thursday, three people were injured by bullets fired accidentally from the weapon of a security guard for a private security agency near an ATM for a private bank at the weekly haat of Rajgangpur in Odisha's Sundargarh district.

Muhammad Ilias (40), of Dilwar Ganj, Sita Lakra (30), of Jampali, and Anuras Tanti (25) of Shanti Nagar have been identified as the victims. They had formed a line outside the ICICI ATM to withdraw cash.

According to sources, the guard was on escort duty and was accompanying the private bank's cash management vehicle to the ATM to load cash. When he stepped out of the van with the trunk loaded with cash, his gun accidentally discharged.

The injured were immediately taken to Rourkela's government hospital. The SDPO and his team arrived on the scene and detained Ranjit Kumar, a security guard, for questioning.

A case has been filed, and additional investigation is underway.
