Bargarh: An alleged suicide pact wiped out an entire Masterpada family in Odisha's Bargarh district's Sohela area. While their brother and sister, both in their twenties, died on Sunday, their mother died on Monday undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.

Kumuduni Sahoo (52), her son Bansidhar Sahoo (28) and her daughter Subarna Mahajan (24) were all killed.

On Sunday, the trio reportedly swallowed pesticide.

Neighbors saw Subarna's two-year-old daughter wailing hopelessly outside their home about 11 a.m., according to sources.

They spoke to the small girl and promptly called police, who arrived on the scene, smashed open the door of the residence, and discovered the three unconscious. They are rushed to Sohela Community Health Centre (CHC) and then to the Bargarh district headquarters hospital, where Bansidhar died after treatment. Subarna passed away on the route to Burla. Their mother was transferred to VIMSAR in serious condition, but she died this morning.

The initial inquiry found that Kumudini and her two children were suffering from extreme emotional stress following the loss of her husband, Arjun Sahoo, on September 6 due to chronic illness. Because the family was well-off and traded in utensils, financial stress is not considered as a motivation for the suicide pact. "The trio may have attempted suicide as a result of depression." "A thorough investigation is underway," Sohela police station IIC Pranaya Murmu stated.
