3 more Scrub Typhus cases in Odisha’s Sundargarh, total rises to 183
At least three more persons have tested positive for the deadly scrub typhus in Odisha's Sundargarh district, bringing the total number of victims to 183.
Sundargarh: At least three more persons have tested positive for the deadly scrub typhus in Odisha's Sundargarh district, bringing the total number of victims to 183.
Kanhucharan Nayak, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), revealed this on Monday. Eleven cases of scrub typhus were discovered in the district yesterday.
According to the CDMO, ten of the scrub typhus cases are from outside of Odisha, while nine are from neighboring districts in the state.
Despite the health department's efforts to raise public awareness of scrub typhus, the disease has spread its tentacles throughout the district.
Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) now offer scrub typhus testing. The health authorities have enlisted the help of ASHA and Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) volunteers to raise public awareness about the disease.
Meanwhile, at least seven individuals have reportedly died in the state as a result of the terrible sickness. Six of the deceased were from the Bargarh district, while one was from Sundargarh.
It should be emphasized that scrub typhus is transmitted by the biting of infected chiggers (larval mites). Fever, a black inflammatory mark on the skin called 'eschar,' and bodily discomfort are prominent signs of the condition.
People who frequently visit agriculture or forests are at risk of illness.
The Sundargarh district's patients are mostly from the Sundargarh Sadar and Balishankara blocks.
Officials stated there is enough treatment for the patients, and a special team of doctors has been called in to help the scrub virus patients in the district.
