Bhubaneswar: The Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra in Odisha is expected to end on January 23 without travelling through the state's southern regions, which were formerly considered the party's traditional strength.

According to sources, the yatra, which is currently passing through Sundargarh, would be able to visit some additional districts, including Sambalpur and Balangir, before coming to a conclusion.

Apart from the southern region, numerous areas of the coastal area, including Ganjam district, remained unaffected by the yatra, during which the Congress has launched a withering attack on both the ruling BJD in Odisha and the BJP government at the Centre.

The yatra must be completed because all senior Congress leaders have been asked to be present in Bhubaneswar on January 26 to start the party's booth level programme, 'Haath Se Haath Jodo,' they claimed.

However, the decision to abruptly shorten the yatra appears to have sparked considerable dissatisfaction among party leaders and workers in the areas that would be excluded.

Meanwhile, in a speech to party members in Sundargarh district, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak accused both the BJP-led Centre and the BJD administration of failing in every way.

According to the PCC head, Odisha will be able to thrive only once the BJP government at the Centre and the BJD dictatorship in Odisha are deposed.

In response to the war of words between the BJD and the BJP over the Centre's free rice scheme, Pattanayak stated that the national food security scheme was introduced in 2014 by the then-Congress government at the Centre, and that the BJD and BJP had no role in it.

However, he claims that both political parties have been attempting to take credit for the initiative and mislead voters in order to gain votes.
