Kidney patients stage road blockade near Health Minister’s residence in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Kidney sufferers in Bhubaneswar blocked the road between Raj Bhavan and AG Square in front of the residence of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, increasing their demand for free drugs given by their consulting doctors for treatment.

Vehicle movement was hampered as many patients staged a road blockade by squatting on the Rajpath in order to stress their demand. For the past 13 days, they have been holding a dharna in the state capital.

As the patients continued to protest, the Health Minister stated on November 10 that he had given the department the required instructions to resolve their issues.

On the government's response to the demonstrators' concerns, the Minister stated, "I have already provided direction to the department in this area." The department has already held a meeting to try to solve the problem. I have directed the department to rectify the issue as quickly as possible."

The patients have been sitting on a dharna opposite the Minister's residence, asking that their consulting doctors provide them with free drugs for treatment. They claimed that the drugs were not available at government hospitals.
