Berhampur: Two CCTV cameras that captured GRS Swagat Panda going on the road that fatal night have given the case of the missing GRS a fresh twist. Panda was last seen in the Ganjam region of Odisha.

At 9.30 p.m. on Monday, Swagat, who serves as GRS for the Purusottampur block's Solaghara and Sunathara panchayats, departed from his home to meet BDO. However, he didn't go back home till the following morning and left his phone off.

On Tuesday, his wife reported him missing to the Purusottampur police station. Swagat, who hails from Jenapalli in the district of Chhatrapur, has been residing at Kansari Sahi in Purusottampur for the previous 1.5 years.

Swagat's wife notified Purusottampur BDO after he didn't come home, according to police sources. The BDO informed her that the GRS had phoned him on the phone at around 9.30 p.m. and they had spoken about some business related to the government. He said, "Since that time, he hasn't called or visited the office."

Swagat's motorcycle and mobile phone were discovered in various locations throughout the town on Tuesday morning. The bike was sitting in an abandoned state at Gadasahi while the phone was discovered by people near Harijan Sahi plaza.

Around Monday night's midnight, a CCTV camera placed at a gas station on the Berhampur-Purusottampur road saw Swagat walking by himself. He was also captured on camera going away by a second CCTV camera at a dhaba next to the gas station.

The CCTV footage from both locations has been recovered by the police, who have also opened an inquiry. The Swagat family and other relatives are being questioned. The phone numbers from Swagat's mobile phone have also been recovered by the police, who are also trying to find him.
