Kendrapada: On Saturday night, two people were killed and three others were seriously injured after being hit by a speeding fish-laden pick-up van on the Cuttack-Chandbali road in the Kendrapada Sadar police limits in Duhuria.
The deceased have been identified as Badagaon residents Dibyajyoti Das and Somanath Sahoo.
According to sources, the accident occurred when eight people were returning from Balia'melana' while carrying a Dola palanquin. While Somnath died on the spot, Dibyajyoti died in the hospital. The injured have been transported to Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The mishap is thought to have been caused by fog. While the driver fled the scene, police seized the vehicle and began an investigation.
