Bhubaneswar: ASI shooting health minister Naba Das is still fresh in the minds of the public, Odisha police transferred a constable posted at Kolabira police station in Odisha's Jharsuguda district for allegedly threatening to avenge the murder of Kalpana Das and her daughter, whom former Brajarajnagar MLA Anup Sai had conspired to eliminate.

According to sources, constable Saroj Das has been transferred to the district police headquarters' reserve office following his inebriated remark against Sai, and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against him.

The former legislator was convicted in the double murder case and is now free on bail.

Jharsuguda police, which has begun a drive to remove all drunken police officers' weapons and transfer them to the district police headquarters, has yet to reveal Saroj's exact statement against Sai.

The constable, a relative of the victim Kalpana, assisted Chhattisgarh police in identifying her body, which had been dumped near Hamirpur forest in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district.

On February 13, 2020, Chhattisgarh police arrested both Sai and his driver on suspicion of murdering Kalpana and her daughter Bubly. The deceased's post-mortem report revealed that they were hit with a blunt object before being run over by a vehicle in order to pass it off as a road accident. A Chhattisgarh court sentenced the former legislator to life imprisonment for the double murder under Sections 302, 201, 120(B), and 34 of the IPC.

From 2000 to 2009, Sai was elected to the Odisha Assembly on a Congress ticket from the Brajarajnagar constituency. He joined the BJD in 2014 but was defeated in the election. He allegedly had a relationship with Kalpana since 2011, but plotted to kill her when she insisted on marriage and a share of his property.
